Opening weekend was hot and painful but a relief to have behind us after the trip up from Texas.
Almost two years ago I replaced the engine on my Chevy one ton van (industrial 454) so I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade to a duel exhaust system for engine life and fuel economy. I had the work done at Midas corporate store in Austin TX. So began an epic of faulty possibly criminal work by Midas. About 20 miles into out first trip I had to stop and wire up the pipes that were already dragging the ground and drive the rest of the 1100 miles to Arizona with loud (very) exhaust leaks then had to fight to get it repaired without charge. it made it back to Austin but the next rip again just 20 miles out we blew donuts again, this time 1300 miles with a loud exhaust leak. I took it to the Midas in Gurnee but they could not work on it because it did not have catalytic converters, which are required by law in IL and TX. Midas paid for the catalytic converters to be installed BUT that started a problem that cost three O2 sensors. The converters were installed too close to the sensor and caused it to be steam damaged in less than 10 miles of driving. Eventually we fixed that problem but 300 miles later a tail pipe feel off in Missouri on my drive back to Texas. that was repaired and made a trip to Arizona and back without incident but driving back to Bristol, again in Missouri, it developed an exhaust leak I thought would be another donut but instead the pipe separated causing flames from the exhaust to melt the solenoid to the point liquid metal poured thru the starter shoring it and burning off both terminals as well and nearly melting the oil sensor out of the block. We were towed in from Springfield Il. (280 miles at $3 per mile) but since it was July 3 at 4pm we had no other option to get to the show on time. We are talking to Midas now about who will pay.

as if that was not enough I twisted my ankle Friday afternoon so was hobbling badly Saturday.
