Lord Randolph's Pictorial diary of Chainmaille Fashions the 2008 Minnesota Renaissance Festival week 6 Sept. 20 and 21 2008

The fifth weekend was over cast and dizzily all weekend and while it was cool for chain mail it was not cool for Minnesotans. They stayed and shopped!

The week after I spent remodeling what we call the icehouse. it is a 8x10box that in its earlier life had been one of those buildings that get drug out onto the ice to fish from. Don't ask me it is a Minnesota thing.
It had been just bare wood inside with much water stains and grim from it's 30 years. last year I had added a real framed roof to it. This week I built in 3 sheets of plywood worth shelves then applied 2 gallons of kilz2, one gallon of brilliantly white exterior semi gloss wall and trim and nearly a gallon of Polyurethane porch and floor (machine light gray). We can organize our supplies, have a good spot for crew goodies and have enough space left over for all the crew baggage to go on a shelf with enough floor space left for up to 6 chairs.. Before all breaks happened outside rain or shine.

I also added two sheets of ply worth of shelves to the alcove I do my decorating in when here. Again it was a big improvement.

Next year I plan on adding covered space on at least two sides of it and possibly add a new layer of brick to the sales floor. It will be the third layer added to the third floor in 31 years. Two things happed. First the ground squirrels undermine. I patch a few spots every year but they never go back in as flat as a new installation. Second the grounds crew periodically spread gravel, straw, woodchips, and dirt. That and being at the bottom of the hill the ground level in front of my booth has elevated over a foot in 31 years. If I don't keep my floor high enough the run off from up the hill will enter and it has been coming close. 1/4 to an inch of dry mortar mix added over the existing floor and a new set of brick on top should get me 10 more years anyway.

Sixth weekend was picture perfect, close to 80 on Saturday and mid 70's on Sunday the crowds were huge and in great spirits. My friends Craig and Barb Rutschow came out Saturday and camped over to meet some friends from Redwing on Sunday a good time was had by all. Sales were very brisk
