I have attemped several times to make chaps and even a few pairs of shorts and 1 full pants, none of them ever worked.

When Stevie asked me to make a pair I at first refused but her husband AANdy explained how long she had planned them and I agreed to try because she wanted short ones ( I don't think it would work if even a few inches longer) aand because she was available every day of festival to try them on and fine tune them.

It took weeks and at least 6 fittings but I like the result
