The new time slot for the Bristol festival really messes up my season, a full 4 weeks of overlap closing on Labor day leaves too little time to get to MN festival for the following weekend so I only spent 2 weeks there then the hard pack, long drive, and fast setup to open Texas 5 days later.
On the way to Bristol I blew and engine, it got me there, (God bless BIG block V8's) but it was expensive to rebuild, then on the race to Texas we had 4 separate tire incidents and had to replace 6 of 8 tires. The first was a rear tire throwing small chunks of tread but not flat so we limped to an exit which fortunately had a tire store, bought 2.(Iowa)
Next came a blow out on a trailer tire but it is duel axel so we limped to a tire store and bought 2 (Kansas)
Next we had an entire tread leave explosively, the tire had little sign of wear and did considerable damage to the fender, wheel well and exhaust. This was Ardmore, OK so just over 200 miles to home so I gambled and put the spare on and kept driving. 10 miles past Gainesville BAM.
It was right at 5pm and I figured we were looking at a possible overnight delay. The only business at the exit was a small garage behind a closed auto lot. They called a friend with a tire store in Gainesville to keep him open then lent me their pickup to drive and get two tires.
We made Austin about midnight. Got 7 hours sleep off loaded stuff that belonged at home and off to festival arriving 4ish on Thursday.
That is why I was cranky for the weekend. I slept most of Monday and Tuesday and am in much better humor now.
Opening weekend was HOT and HUMID with rain on Sunday
